Pune is a city of cultural exuberance that is traditional at heart but modern in outlook. The city has retained its old world charm, and yet managed to embrace modernism with ease. Pune continues to be the seat of Maharashtrian culture, and the Marathi spoken in the city is considered to be the purest form of the language. Pune is considered to be the birthplace of Marathi theatre. Both Professional and Experimental theatres continues to thrive in Pune due to the patronage of the average Punekar.
