EXPERIENCE PUNE
Welcome to the ‘Cultural Capital’ of Maharashtra! Welcome to Pune!

Pune is the second largest city in Maharashtra and the city can trace its origin to 937 A.D., when Pune was an agricultural settlement, known as ‘Punya Vishaya’ or ‘Poonak Vishaya’ – the city of virtuous deeds (Punya / Poonak – ‘Virtuous’; Vishaya – ‘City’). The name was apt since Pune is the birthplace of religious icons such as Sant Dnyaneshwar and the great poet, Sant Tukaram.

During the independence struggle, under great Indian leaders such as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, and Gopal Krishna Gokhale, the city became an important centre of religious and social reform movements that swept the entire nation.

Pune’s has earned a number of nicknames over a period of time. For its elevated position on the Deccan Plateau, the city is called, ‘Queen of Deccan’. For imparting quality education, it referred to as ‘Oxford of the East’, and being India’s automobile hub, it is called, ‘Detroit of India’. And today, being the toast of BPOs and IT industry, Pune is touted as the upcoming ‘IT-BT Capital of India’.

Pune has kept pace with changing times, and is one of the Indian cities where modernism and traditionalism co-exist in perfect harmony.
