Geography
Location: 18° 31' 22.45" North; 73° 52' 32.69" East, near the western margin of the Deccan Plateau.

Pune is strategically located at 560 metres (1837 feet) above sea level on the leeward side of the Sahyadri ranges and Western Ghats, at the confluence of Mutha and Mula rivers. While the Sinhagadh-Katraj-Dive Ghats range forms the southern border of the urban area, while the Pavana and Indrayani rivers pass through the northwestern of the urban area. Vetal Hill (800 metres or 2625 feet above sea level) is the highest point within the urban area while Sinhagadh Fort (1300 metres or 4265 feet above sea level) is the highest point outside the urban area.
Climate
Being surrounded by hills on three sides, Pune is bestowed with pristine beauty, and blessed with a pleasant climate.

There are three main seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter. The temperature in the city varies from as low as 15 degrees Celsius, to as high as 39 degrees Celsius. While summer is characterised by sunny but windy days, and cool nights; the winter is characterised by cold nights and pleasantly warm days. As Pune lies in the leeward (rain shadow) side of the Western Ghats, it receives moderate rainfall with the annual average rainfall being 722 millimetres.
