Schools in Pune are either run by Pune Municipal Corporation or private institutes with affiliation to ICSE, CBSE, or Maharashtra State Board. Some of the prominent schools in the city are: Billabong High, St. Vincent’s High School, St. Anne’s High School, Don Bosco High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Loyola High School, Ornellas High School, Stella Maris High School, Bal Niketan, St. Clare’s Girls High School, etc. to name a few.
Pune is also, home to reputed educational institutions across various disciplines such as: Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics; Symbiosis Institute of Management; National Defense Academy; F.C. Fergusson College; Pune Engineering College; Poona College of Pharmacy; Bharti Vidyapeeth Homeopathic Medical College; Film and Television Institute of India (FTII); Armed Force Medical College; Indira Gandhi Technical Institute, National Institute of Bank Management; MIT School of Management; etc.
Besides the University of Pune, the city has five more deemed universities: Deccan College (Archaeology and Linguistics), Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (Sanskrit, Ayurveda, Indology, and Social Sciences), Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Bharati Vidyapeeth, and Symbiosis International University.
Pune has the distinction of being the largest centre of Japanese learning in India with specialised training provided by the University of Pune. The annual JLPT exam, that tests the proficiency in Japanese language, is held in Pune in December. The city also has a Max Mueller Bhavan for German language and Alliance Francaise de Poona for those aspiring to learn the French language. |
