"SCMLD came into being by the financial contribution and emotional alignment of, and persuasion by, the former students of Prof M.S. Pillai, who was the director of SCMHRD from its concept & inception in 1993, to April 2004. The persistent urging of hundreds of his former students inspired him to continue the journey of Human Resource Development by starting SCMLD. And thus SCMLD came into being in a matter of 40 days, with its first batch, in July 2004.(For SCMLD History - Click here) SCMLD’s approach is that of a learning gurukulam. Knowing is of no use unless acted upon / lived. Performance / execution excellence is the need today. It is a function of the mind, being competent. SCMLD strives to re-engineer that mind and develop such competencies that its students emerge extraordinary in seeing opportunities, feeling balanced, thinking positive, acting prompt and right to produce great outcomes utilizing their emotional & intellectual assets so that they grow faster, stronger and higher. Thus, they should become an inspiration for their own selves & others, by sheer contribution and success achieved without any shortcuts. Some of the unique aspects of SCMLD: Students are to work & earn pocket money while learning, irrespective of one’s financial background, and organize learning events like seminars, mini seminars, out of box activities and outbound learning programs. Students are also taken through a 3 day self discovery process to free them from inhibitions, anxieties, fears, hatred, frustrations etc. to reinvent themselves as vibrant, confident, transparent, courageous, sensitive and competent beings. Yoga, workout, pranayama, field assignments, surveys, group activities, collaborative learning etc. are usual at SCMLD. (For Unique Features - Click here) Learning Infrastructure: SCMLD has two fully Wi-Fi campuses with 2 Mbps internet connectivity for each. The library consists of more than 8782 single title reference books, subscription of 55 Indian & international journals, 281 UN, World Bank & other reports, 458 CDs and DVDs of Harvard, Stanford etc. series. E-library by which students can access 2150 journals, over 1067 business publications & magazines, 10151 global company profiles, 150 case studies, 94 market research reports, SWOT analysis of 2953 companies & country economic reports of major countries etc., from either of the SCMLD campuses, is a recent addition. Additionally, each student is provided with text books numbering 35-50 each, during the course of two years, as required. Computer labs have 146 latest PCs and high speed servers including a server dedicated to only viewing CDs, DVDs, seminar proceedings and so on . Video conferencing facility is also available. Every SCMLD student is provided with 6 pairs of uniforms, 2 pairs of track pants, 4 t-shirts, a jacket and one blazer & a tie each to boy students, two silk sarees each for the girl students. SCMLD examination/evaluation system (Academic & Co-curricualars): 60% of the evaluation is by continuous process involving collaborative learning wherein each one helps each other in teams of ten followed by presentation and group viva / discussion. Last 40% is by way of written examination to honor individual efforts and distinction, action orientation, integrity, assignment outcomes, behavior etc. are also monitored and measured. (For entire Evaluation System - Click here) Flexible Learning System: W.e.f. 2010 SCMLD is introducing electives of choice for individual students, subject to certain norms & standards. That is, keeping the core & essential subjects of business, applied economics, functional specializations and leadership essentials, a student can choose one, two or three subjects / topics of their deep interest but relevant to business and leadership subject to faculty committee approval & submit thesis and skip as many subjects from the institute course structure. Further, those students who would like to take up job / entrepreneurial ventures can do so after the basic Post Graduate Programme in Executive Leadership (PGPEL) and if they wish they can pursue the Advanced programme in weekend / project / thesis basis, subject to certain academic and behavioral stipulations. However, fee and hostel charges etc. will continue to be the same as applicable to the APEL students. Those who wish to have two years of full-time post graduate grooming can proceed to APEL subject to passing PGPEL. Part time work during APEL is also allowed. All this is to build employability / entrepreneurship with practical and academic inputs. "
