"The inspiration to start a product development company came to Nitin and Manjusha when they were handling the Indian operations of California based eGain Communications. Working at key positions in development and operations, it became apparent to them that there is a basic incompatibility between the structure of big software companies and the needs of small and medium sized product firms. They saw how this increased the challenges of coordinating between offshore teams. Teams in smaller companies often work on contextual understanding instead of lengthy spec sheets like large firms are used to. In addition, the development team in product companies needs to be agile; as product development always involves specifications that change on the fly. These issues become particularly problematic when development is happening offshore, leading to substandard deliverables. In April 2003, they founded Talentica, which married the scale and resources of a large software firm with the needs of small and medium sized product companies.
